Bank Nifty
Bank Nifty
Bank Nifty is an index that represents the performance of the banking sector in the Indian stock market. The index consists of the most liquid and large capitalized banking stocks listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The stocks included in the Bank Nifty index are weighted based on their market capitalization.
Market capitalization is the total value of a company's outstanding shares of stock. The market capitalization of a company is calculated by multiplying the current market price of its shares by the total number of outstanding shares. The weight of a stock in the Bank Nifty index is determined by dividing the market capitalization of the stock by the total market capitalization of all the stocks in the index.
For example, if the market capitalization of a stock is Rs. 100 crore and the total market capitalization of all the stocks in the Bank Nifty index is Rs. 10,000 crore, then the weight of that stock in the index would be 1%.
The weight of each stock in the index changes over time as the market capitalization of the stocks fluctuates. The weight of each stock in the index is also adjusted periodically to ensure that the index represents the current state of the banking sector in the Indian stock market.
